Hold Down Clamps

Sometimes, the stepblocks are a pain to use. Especially when you need to perform a repeated operation. I needed to modify a bunch of phone shells (for work). I found using the stepblocks was a real pain. Loosening off the clamps they's fall off the stepdown blocks. So I decided to make a minor modification to my clammps to make the whole process easier.

Drill and Tap Hole

I drilled and tapped a 10-32 hole near the end of the clamp. Bigger...

Add Spring

In Use

Here you can see the clamp in the clamped position. I used a jamb nut to keep the rear rod in place. There's a small piece of black foam between the clamp and the phone shell to keep the phone shell from being marred. Bigger...

And here we see the clamp waiting for the next phone shell. The spring holds it off the table, and the rear rod stays put. Bigger...
